What does SafeDiff do?+
SafeDiff compares your current Shopify product CSV with a proposed update. It shows expected and unexpected changes, lets you review and correct flagged values, runs a final preflight, and exports a revised Shopify CSV using your original catalogue structure.
Does SafeDiff edit my store?+
No. SafeDiff doesn’t connect to or automatically modify your Shopify store. You review changes inside SafeDiff, download the revised CSV, and decide whether to import it into Shopify.
What’s the difference between the two CSV downloads?+
The Shopify CSV contains your catalogue data and the corrections you approved. It’s intended for your Shopify import workflow. The Report CSV is an audit file containing SafeDiff’s comparison details, findings and review information. They are intentionally separate: your report explains the changes, and your Shopify CSV contains only your catalogue data.
Does SafeDiff automatically fix my file?+
No. SafeDiff flags changes and gives you simple review choices. You decide whether to keep the current value, keep the proposed value, or enter another value. SafeDiff doesn’t silently change catalogue values.
Are my CSV files uploaded anywhere?+
No. Your catalogue files are read, compared and corrected inside your browser, and SafeDiff’s analysis doesn’t send them to our servers. The app only contacts our server to check or activate a license.
Does SafeDiff use AI?+
No. The analysis is deterministic: the same two files and intent always produce the same report. Your intent is interpreted with transparent keyword rules, and you can select chips to be explicit.
What files do I need?+
Your current Shopify product export and the CSV you’re planning to import. Both should include the Handle column. Files up to 15 MB are supported.
Where is my history stored?+
Reports are saved in your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB) if local history is on. You can turn it off or clear it anytime in Settings. Raw CSV files are never stored.
Is SafeDiff affiliated with Shopify?+
No. SafeDiff is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or certified by Shopify Inc.
Does SafeDiff guarantee an import will be safe?+
No. No software can guarantee how every Shopify import or connected third-party app will behave. SafeDiff helps you review changes before import. Review your revised file and maintain appropriate backups before bulk catalogue updates.
